Night 6

Eliezer and the rest of the Jews were marching to Gleitwitz, another Nazi concetration camp, in the snow. Eliezer lost feeling in his foot, thinking it was frozen. The Jews were forced to run for miles and whoever slowed down or fell was shot by an SS soldier. Eli was running next to a boy named Zalman, who fell and could not go on with the rest of the group. Zalman was trampled by the sprinting Jews that were behind him. Elie prays for the strength to never do what Rabbi Eliahu's son did, which left him in the back and did not stick with his father. Elie says that Rabbi Eliahu's son wanted to be rid of his father. Elie says "..a prayer formed inside me, a prayer to this God on whom I no longer believed." It is now official that Elie has lost complete faith in God. Before he never said he completely did not believe anymore, but he did say he was losing faith, which was a matter of time before total faith was gone.

Elie and his father finally reach Gleitwitz safely. Both were thrown onto a pile with thousands of other Jews, all gasping for oxygen. Elie thought everyone was going to die of suffication, but he somehow managed to dig a hole for some air. His buddy from the camp before, Juliek, was in the same "dog-pile" as Eliezer and his father. Juliek was highly upset because he thought the soldiers were going to take his violin. They did not take it, which led to Juliek playing a beautiful song, heard by Elie, right before he died. Elie awoke the next morning next to Julieks carcass. Another march is on.
